Paint Sets the Mood of a Room

When you’re considering repainting, take some time to intentionally decide how you want the room to feel. Is this room supposed to invigorate you? Excite You? Does this room need to calm you down? Do you need to concentrate in this room?

Over half of the human brain is dedicated to simply interpreting visual information, so color plays a major role in how a room is perceived, and thus how we feel in the room.

According to The Color Scheme Bible by Anna Starmer:

  • Pink: fun, lively, positive and feminine
  • Red: passionate, daring, intimate, comforting, stimulates appetite
  • Orange: stimulates creativity, evokes warmth and coziness
  • Yellow: welcoming, sunny, and linked to promoting intelligence
  • Green: tranquil, invigorating, restful and balancing
  • Blue: clear thinking, calm, meditative
  • Violet: stimulating, sexy; blue-violets are cooling, spiritual

This works in commercial spaces as well, so the next time you’re in a restaurant or a store, consider what the owners may be expressing without saying a word.
